Paul Reubens was at Burning Man!!!

I shit you not folks. Paul Reubens and David Arquette arrived together in an RV around mid-week. I was told by the gate person who searched their vehicles and checked their tickets. Evidently other people at the gate were kind of acting obnoxious after finding out who they were, but my gate staff friend treated them respectfully. I think they only stayed 2 days and may have even left before the Saturday burn. I wish I could have shown them around properly. I could have borrowed a golf cart and made sure they saw all the nice aspects of the event. A friend of mine has a friend who is fairly close to Paul so I'm going to see if I can arrange something for next year should he want to come to the event again.

Dammit Jamie. I didn't get to see YOU at all.....And Sadie, were you even there?

Paul Reubens Day approacheth and we seek performers!

This year, Paul Reuben's Day (aka Pee Wee Day) will be on July 29th. We celebrate Paul Reubens and ALL of his achievements, while visiting local bars, places of interest and throwing a little street theatre in. Participants come dressed in all characters from Pee Wee's Playhouse and of course there are dozens of variations of Mr Wee himself, with past greats of Ninja Wee, Kink Wee, Punk Wee, Tall Reubens, and many more....

We are looking for a few performers for our afterparty at The Darkroom theatre on Mission St. The place is small but will accomodate burlesque acts, magic acts, balloon making clowns, weirdness etc.. We can't pay squat (everything comes out of our pockets and donations go to the Center For Sex and Culture), but it is promised to be a really fun event. Who doesn't want to be involved with a party involving Pee Wee's playhouse, porn and spooge?

We are also looking for a local celebrity who would be willing to hang out at the party for a bit and judge the Miss Yvonne contest.

The afterparty starts at 9pm and we expect it to run through midnight. If you would like to perform, please message me with your details and we can talk scheduling.

Someone else did this pee-wee name before, but I'm just going to do it again despite that - Mostly because I can't think of anything else, and I have some momentum going costume-wise in my wardrobe, i.e. stuff I own seems to be coming together for it: corset, skirt-suit, stockings, white shoes - thinking about getting a beret. The purpose of this Tribe

Well, it's obvious, isn't it?

We, the members of the Pee Wees tribe, attire ourselves as Pee Wee Herman (or one of the many other famous characters from the best children's show ever, "Pee Wee's Playhouse") and go on drunken rampages of porn and booze every year on July 26th, otherwise known as "Paul Reubens Day", the anniversary of his arrest for Indecent Exposure.

So: For those of you who are new here, best get working on your Pee Wee costume! Pick your Pee Wee name (e.g. Punk Wee, Mini-Wee, She-Wee, Wee-Wee, Sherman Herman, etc.)! Get your Pee-Wee on! Buy Kleenex or save your used socks! Start watching lots of pr0n and drinking heavily WHILE IN PEE WEE GARB! And be ready, at all times, to heed the Pee Wee call and rush out for a display of madcap, drunken costumed public theater/debauchery as your bad Pee Wee self.

If it wasn't already clear, merely liking Pee Wee is not enough. Members of this tribe need to be willing to stage costumed Pee Wee assaults en masse at least once a year, if not more. (Of course, other Pee-Wee related costumes and characters are perfectly acceptable, including the lovely Miss Yvonne, the red bicycle, Jambi and others. Use your imagination!)

Furthermore: We, the Pee Wees, are the sworn natural enemies of the dread Pirates, those faux-nautical swabbie-come-latelies. Those eyepatched ninnies. Those parrot-dropping-covered ponces in poofy pantaloons! Those grog-swilling literary scenesters (I'm looking at you here, Eggers & Co.). And as the avowed foe of the Pirates, we are comitted to thwart, baffle and befuddle them at every opportunity. Crash pirate-themed events as Pee Wees. Whenever you see pirate signage or slogans, subvert them with the more-powerful Pee Wee iconography. Using your drunken porny powers do public battle with those swashbuckling swiffer-heads. Cover their vessels in cum-stains! Do whatever it takes to sink the pirate movement!

And lastly: We must always seek out the holy grail of Pee-Wee-dom: The Red Bicycle. Return it to us and the porny kingdom and the boozy glory shall be yours, now and forever.

I've just posted most of the costume idea photos from the PRD pages on fluxdesign (www.fluxdesign.com/prd) onto the gallery here.

There are plenty of good reference shots of the classic Pee Wee look (red bow ties, grey suit w/flooded pants, white shirt, white pocket hanky, white lesuire shoes) as well as Paul's mugshot from the infamous arrest in Sarasota. (The latter is an especially easy costume: just muss your hair, wear a dirty white tee-shirt and print out one of the mugshot cards from the image gallery)

Oh yeah, there are two versions of the mugshot card, one in color and one in greyscale. They're free if you print them out at work!

Robert Paterson just posted a single-page online summary of Malcolm Gladwell's highly popular book "The Tipping Point". For those remaining few of you who haven't yet read it, his page does an admirable job of distilling Gladwell's core theses about epidemics and "tipping points" into an easily-consumable, short-attention-span format.

What does any of this ramgoolie have to do with Pee Wees, and more importantly, CUMMING?

Well just read the following document, in which I've taken Paterson's summary and replaced all ocurrances of the word "epidemic" with "Pee Wee". Also, "change" has been replaced by "cum", "messenger" with "masturbator" and "message" with "orgasm". I think you will find it shockingly apt. Or just shocking. Your call.

The tagline to the movie is "The story of a rebel and his bike."

This being said...In the spirit of the movie, we're going to encourage
people to ride their bikes to the movie. As an incentive we'll have
some warm popcorn, tickets to the basement of the Alamo, and maybe
some brownies or something if we can get motivated (unless someone
wants to volunteer to make some!)

Either way.. be there NEXT Wednesday the 15th to find out just WHAT

There is an SUV parked at the gym near where I am employed. On it is a flyer that says it's being raffled off to raise money for the Mr. PeeWee foundation (or something like that). It's a totally richie-rich, upscale gym too. Pee Wees ATTACK!

The gym is at the corner of Redwood Shores Parkway and Twin Dolphin Road in Redwood City. Kind of a long trek. Fuck it.

All you beuatiful, retarded, pervaliscious -wees for making this such a great PRD. You all did an excellent job of simultaneously arousing, scaring, disgusting and exciting hundreds of unsespecting Mission pedestrians. I loved the way children and their parents reacted to us, most parents went out of their way to point us out and say "Look, its Pee-wee Herman!" (even though most of their kids were too young to know who the hell that is and we were obviously a somewhat disturbed more adult themed version than usual.) Please keep the pictures coming, I have plans for them, oh yes.....MUAha-HA-Ha-HA-haHA!

Zeitgeist is angry at us for the way the flyer appears to list them charging the $5 donation. They asked us not to distribute this flyer anymore. Please remove this flyer from our main photo.

For anyone wondering, the $5 is to help pay for the rental of the Mini Roxie theatre where we will be showing PORN, having our costume and trivia contest and be able to be as sick and as Pee Wee as we want to be.

pee wee vs. the suicide girls + a plea for outfit

The Suicide Girls (well, some of them) will be at Tower Records, Castro doing a book signing. I think it would be awesome to break away from the bar for an hour or so to go descend upon the unsuspecting girls and their fans.

Holding your own Paul Reubens Day

We need more PRD's taking place this year. Anyone who wants to start a regional event please do so, and feel free to contact me or post here for advice/help/guidelines.

Basically you just need to get a bunch of peeps (or should I say, Pee-ps) together in one place and lead them around from bar to bar to porn shop to bar to titty theater to bar to bar, and then let nature (and liquor) take its course.

Failing that, an event at someone's house or other private venue is always an option, though we reccomend making it just one stop on an otherwise mostly public rampage, as half (hell, all) of the fun of a PRD is seeing the public's reaction to a band of fifty sloshed Pee Wees walking the steets.

July 26th (the date of Mr. Herman's unfortunate arrest) is the traditional date for PRD, but pretty much any other day is equally good. Also fun is crashing other costumed events (Santarchy, pirate stuff, bunny and assorted furry events, etc.) with a band of dedicated Pee Wees.

Also: attending any "straight" public event, such as the opera in Pee Wee garb will also bring attention to our cause, and makes for good fun.

But the classic Pee Wee event is porn, kleenex and booze on July 26th.

Costumes are easily asembled from trips to thrift stores. Organization need be minimal (though it's usually a good idea to have your route planned out ahead of time, and to drop in beforehand on the bars and other places you intend to visit to make sure that they're down with the idea. Actually, if you approach them right, you may even find them offering you drink specials and other treats.)

Bring a few VHS tapes (Pee Wee's Big Adventure, porn, etc.) to throw on in case any of the bars you visit have projection teevees. Also a boom box playing Pee Wee tunes and masturbation themed songs can be a big help in setting the mood. (Contact me for the track list we played during PRD '03 in SF).

Also consider leading your Pee Wees in learning the famous "Tequila" dance. This is especially fun if done after one or two bar stops. And nothing brings traffic to a halt better than forty Pee Wees doing this dance in a public space.

You get the idea. Let your imagination (and your perversity) be your guide. Have fun. Take pictures. And publicize the hell out of it beforehand, giving people enough time to gather a costume together. Email lists, local free papers, social sites like tribe, friendster, etc.

so i reserved the "mini" Roxie (right next to the roxie, seats 50) for sat july 24th, from 4-6 for $200. we are going to have a 'private event' so instead of charging well ask for 'donations'. but we can show porn, drink, etc there and the owner seems totally cool. im psyched! who wants to help me organize this years's event? let me know if you do.

A: our wrists and biceps are going to hurt like hell even if they are padded cuffs, can you picture yourself going uphill through Chinatown with only a hand attached to the cart?

B. Those cheap handcuffs will most likely break. They are cheap metal (knowledge from experience.

I really like the idea of the cuffs but can I puleeeze have a chain around my waist??? If everyone else wants the wrist thingys I would rather be done around the middle and pull from the front..you wrist peeps can flail and go nutz with the crowds on the sidelines...
